一個意念功能，可以用幾種大體相當的語言方式表達出來，這是語言能力熟練的表現和結果。英語專業的學生，都經過長期的這方面的訓練，才達到熟練的英語表達能力。這種訓練叫paraphrase。Paraphrase的能力，就是變通的能力。非英語專業的學生，往往沒有這種訓練，也就很難用多種不同形式來表達同一種意念。但他們在培養英語寫作能力的過程中，要有意識地注意練習和培養這種能力。 !31v@v:)

一個重要的意念，我們不能規避，但它的漢語表達形式讓我們感到用英語表達不出來，或者感到硬用英語表達出來，結果多半是錯的。這時，我們就需要運用變通的技巧，或者說能力。變通就是將漢語的意念，用我們能夠掌握的英語形式大體相當地表達出來。變通的原則是把不會的變成會的，把復雜的變成簡單的。這和上面說講的“寫你會寫的，不要寫你想寫的”原則是一致的。后面課文中的句型講解與練習，有大量的變通的實例，尤其是斜體標明的句子，考生們可以自己體會。 /f~ V(DK
